This conclusive write-up is taking a bit more from me than that for which I had bargained! I'm working away at it, but annoying things like trying to keep my business alive keep distracting me. I'll be toiling away on it this weekend though, while the rest of you are enjoying your MGs and TRs. Think of me, and double clutch when you downshift. It's the British Sports Car equivalent of genuflecting. I'm not Catholic, so if I botched that spelling, or insulted someone, I'm sorry and didn't mean it, etc. Meanwhile, if anyone wants to chime in with an opinion or insult, the door's still open.

Okay! Interesting string of thoughts. I'm no expert on most Triumphs, but have owned three Spitfires. Someone early on had commented on the lines of the Spitfire and I have to agree. And I did enjoy driving mine, but frankly, I think they are a bit fragile. Much more so than an MGB. My '76 Spitfire almost killed me when the front suspension broke at the lower bushings and swerved toward a telephone pole. Thankfully, I was only traveling 30 mph at the time. My wife never would have forgiven me if I had died! The TR-6 was my dream until I went to a Triumph dealer and realized how tight it was inside. I saw one for sale in Lexington, KY recently and thought about buying it, but after sitting in it, there was just not the room that I require for my height. The MGB is comfortable for me, handles nicely, and although it is admittedly underpowered at the present time, I hope to be able to do something about that in the future. Bottom line, I've had three MGBs (1972 MGB, 1973 MGB-GT, and the current 1977 MGB) and I loved all my MGs! zach

I like that :) besides, if I don't double declutch well, let's just say it's one way of getting my sports car to turn heads... now, back to this transmission rebuild. I like MG because of the history, the record breaking cars of the '30s and later, and the accompanying innovation and mechanical creativity. That's true pedigree that is.

I now own a 76 Midget, and a 79B, and I have raced an H production Sprite. All that being said, for me, my TR4A was hands down the best sports car I have ever owned. My Fiat 124 Sport Spyder was a somewhat distant second. Now I love my MGs, but the TR4 was THE msot exciting car I have ever owned.

Motorbill, as I was framing and sheathing a roof today, I thought about this post. You've said that this debate sometimes gets very heated. Can you reveal some of the things that you've heard in true correspondent fashion as not to show YOUR opinion yet?

davey, It wouldn't be fair to reveal some of the things I've heard before the "Great Revalation". Perhaps after. I was hoping to see some nifty ones here, but it just goes to show that "you meet the nicest people in a British roadster" Ugh....

Jim and Joann, That's a good way to put it. I think I may have to put in a call for reenforcements at www.6-pack.org but that might be considered stacking the deck. I'm a little older now but bring on the MG's !

Hey pooly, I have that message service on my forum account whereby when someone has posted to a thread in which I am participating, I get it as email. I got your last one where you asked me, in effect, if you had been abrasive enough, referring to the "sad Day" thread comment I had made. But... I don't see it here in the actual thread. Do you? If this is a malfunction I want to bring it top the attention of the administrator. Let me know. Motorbill

No, Billy, it weren't no malfunction... I had second thoughts and deleted the post. I thought it might be too inflamatory, especially to my MG cousins. I was in a cantankerous mood when I wrote it. Then I thought people might think that I was a real @# # hole, which I can be, admittedly. One thing for sure though, it would have brought some more fuel to the fire. But wait, did I understand that you saw the post before I deleted it? Was it a bit too much?

'tis a bit polite round here. I mean, if all road users were this nice to each other on a regular basis, what would I have to complain about when I get home? You should see the cycling forums (I know, I know..) arguments abound as to whether a bike lane contravenes "the rules of the road", or the necessity to stop at stop signs. Pages and pages of blazing rows. Absolute drivel. Compared to that, popping in here to check the latest Britcar goings on is like a trip down to the local for a warm pint of bitter in front of a real fire. Ed
