It's ugly, but has a heart of gold. Or at least aluminum. 1980 TR8 with the original fuel injection. It took a while to get sorted out, like 15 years but it's now running like a top. Very smooth.

Heya folks,

 I've got a TR7 - V8 with a leyland p76/4.4L V8 running straight LPG - Much cheaper to run in Australia than normal petrol ;)

 Got some pics somewhere, but havnig a great time finding parts for the motor over here.

I've got a '80 TR8 with a heavily modified 3.5 and limited slip 3.9 rear end.  Saw the forum info on the TR8 mail list.

 

 

I have two TR8 convertibles and one preproduction TR8 coupe as well as a TR7 race car that I am starting to restore (no engine or trans).

'79 TR7 DHC

 

Hm. 1980 TR7 30th anniversary edition was the first. Rusted out, though I have the title and just enough parts to claim it's a car.

Next Wedge was a '80 Spider that I saved and stuffed in the garage. Most of it was primer red; I plan to put a LS1 V8 with 6 speed in it, but not making much progress so far.

A couple years ago I got another 1980 (no special edition); developed a huge oil leak at the machanical fuel pump which I fixed, and within weeks aftwerwards died with a nasty death rattle. I haven't had the heart to tear into it yet to determine what's wrong with it.

I also have a fuel injected '81 which I saved from rusting away under a tree. DPO mucked up the title, then dropped a log on the drivers window. Door damage, top damage, etc. Took parts from the first TR7 so it's fairly weathertight and just have it parked for now... It's for sale though. Good tub with minor rust in places; and all the EFI bits. I got it to turn over and run very briefly about a year ago.

TR8 - This was a carbed car, but is being converted to fuel injection using Megasquirt (www.msefi.com) and a European SD1 intake.  It's been up on jackstands getting new floors, bushings, shocks, struts, and Fuel Injection for the past two years.  We could be starting the engine within a month.  I need to get it done.  My TR3 could use some shop time too.

I have both a 1979 TR 7 DHC and a 1980 TR8 DHCwith EFI. WIsh there were more mechanics in the Toronto area familiar with the TR8 EFI but outside California they are rare. Past weekend was great weather wise and I had the TR8 out enjoying the fall colours of Southern Ontario, during our thanksgiving. Car and Sailboat both get put away for winter next weekend :(

I have a 1980 TR8 that is in excellent original condition. Only the interior and alternator are non original items. Sorry to any purists out there, but I removed the tan check interior to install leather seats and the earlier style solid color door panels. When the alternator failed, I replaced it with a Nissan unit which looks very much like the original.

I could use any info or leads on having my power steering rack rebuilt.

1980 TR8. I did a ground up back in 1998-2000 and I have driven it approx 50,xxx since. It's been to both coasts and every VTR since 2000 except for this year (but iI did drive it to Pennsylvania) Green with Tan interior but it needs a freshinging up. But the AC works! Dave Massey

My Triumph is a 1980 TR7 Spider.

In late 2004 I found this car was rescued from a 6 year stay in a North Carolina tobacco barn.  Once spotted peaking out from underneath a tarp, we started to work on it. Cover with pollen and dust, it looked terrible. The squirrel nest in the car did not help matters. A year later I got it inspected and on the road.

Been driving it ever since.

I have done some minor modifications that I will post some pictures of ( If I can figure out how to load them)

I made a custom stainless steel radiator cowl and a new custom exhaust .

I always keep the original parts in case I  feel the need to go back to all original.

 

Can anyone let me know the procedure to load pictures??
