    spax lowered shocks

    hi all the bottom bush on the rear shocks the hole is to small to go on can i drill the bush or is the bushs that have a wider holes  
    hi there my name is stefan webber i live in cornwall i own 3 mini an 850 austin 1979 and 1986 mini thirty and a 1986 checkmate if any one has any hints let me know im new to mini restoring so if i can help i will

    Does the shock have a steel sleeve in the bushing or is it bare rubber? If it's just rubber you should be able to lubricate the rubber well with something like armour all or washing up liquid and slide it on the stud or push the bolt through. If there is a steel sleeve then you can try to drill it ou, but I've always had trouble with the bit hanging and the sleeve just turning inside the rubber. Happens a lot when you get a metric sized shock and try to fit to an inch sized stud.

    You could always simply buy new bushes. They are not expensive and as Bill Young said, if you drill out the sleeve and it seperates from the rubber, you will need to change them anyway.

    Hi Stefan,

    What you might find is the steel inner part of the original bush is seized on the stub axel! all the mounting sizes are the same 5/8 thats the only reason I can think of why a new shocker wouldn't fit! is there a ridge on the shaft?
