    TR3 Engine lifing eyes (brackets)

I could not find reference or pictures in Bentley, Haynes or Roger Williams restoration book on how the rear lifting eye is fitted to the engine.  Do the manifolds have to be installed?  Pictures of other TR3's show the front lifting eye remains on the engine, does the rear (as I haven't seen it in the same pictures)?

Re: TR3 Engine lifing eyes (brackets)

The rear eye goes over the rear left (looking from the front of the engine backwards) head stud and can be rotated around the stud if the nut is slack enough, therefore moving it out of the way to allow fitting of the exhaust manifold (the inlet is nowhere near). The lifting lug being slotted (where it sits on top of the exhaust manifold stud ) then rotates trapping it in place. So to remove the exhaust manifold you have to undo the head nut maybe disturbing the head sealing! As I rebuild my engine I propose to modify the lifting bracket cutting it in half to add another bolted connection so that i don't have to undo the head to remove the manifold.

    Hope this Helps, Marcus
