QUESTION:Should any gasket sealant be used and if so what type and/or brand name?

I prefer  K&W Copper coat gasket compound.   should be available at a good local parts store

I don't think there is a need myself. 100-105 foot pounds of torque on the head bolts should be plenty to compress the gasket to a nice tight seal.

You always want to use coppercoat on copper head gaskets. It helps to dissipate heat from hot spots better than the copper gasket can by itself.

If  you get your hands on a can of #387-501 from Moss read the label. You will be impressed. The stuff has been tried and tested for years.
