Hi, Phil,
The best way to replace the upper hose on a TC is to remove the water outlet from the front of the head by undoing the four bolts that attach it, remove the hose clamp that secures the hose to the radiator and pull the whole assembly down and out. The thermostat housing can then be removed from the outlet elbow while holding the edge of the elbow in a vise. As the shop manual loves to say, "reassembly is the reverse of the foregoing procedure" ........
