    Judson Supercharger

May be getting a 1960 BUGEYE SPRITE and read about the supercharger as being something used on AHs, as well as VWs, etc. Anyone care to provide info on this? The car is a 1275cc w/disc brakes. Are they good, bad, or useless? How much power do they add, etc? Thanks.

    JLEE,

Sorry, only just noticed your post. The Judson is a low technology blower based on what amounts to a refrigeration pump. Having said that, it does provide boost and, if properly assembled and maintained, will noticeably increase your engine's power. Although, you will not reach race motor or Moss supercharger kit power levels. A real positive for the Judson is it's extreme simplicity and wow-factor at car shows. One thing to watch for when buying is the internal vanes actually run against the body of the blower, and will wear out or possibly break if the blower swallows a foreign object. I'm not sure what the story is on replacing the vanes. It also requires an oiler, which may or may not be included when you buy one.

     Good Luck.
