    parts quality

How many of you reading this forum are tired of the poor parts quality lately. I have been in the business for over 32 years and have seen the quality get to the point where you need to order two of everything to make sure you get one working. This is from simple choke cables that pull apart the first time you use it to oil pressure sending units for MGBs to lifters that don't fit. How about everyone getting a bad part start complaining to the source. We spend good money and we deserve better parts.

Wow, Barry, you posted the same thing in multiple spots. I am glad you feel strongly on voicing your opinion and are not so shy about it (but we should be careful not to flood the forum with the same post over and over as this would be a violation of the 'No SPAM!' policy)!

    Now, my original answer:

Barry, I agree that our customers deserve the best quality parts available.

If you have a specific part that you feel is of questionable quality, please make sure to post about it in the proper forum section. We hope to eventually get our key staff involved in reviewing posts that pertain to cars and parts they know about. Hopefully, with the help of this forum, we can help to change any 'bad habits' that our customers feel we have developed over the years.

    Re: parts quality

Well, I don't order a ton of parts as you apparently do, although I will soon be to the point in my '65 B restoration where I will probably be ordering lots of stuff.... I guess al we can do is complain when we get a bad part (to the vendor, that is) and assume that if they get enough complaints then it will be improved. Not to be a shill here but I've never had any issues with parts from the major vendors like Moss. And the BMTA has made quality one of it's top priorities, so the good news is, most of the vendors in our hobby do care about quality.

    Re: parts quality

I thought about this for a minute because there were a couple of times in my restoration project where I was very angry but standing back and looking at it > 90% of the Moss parts were OK and without Moss Motors I would never got anywhere at all. A couple times I was saved by over night deliveries of A) an exhaust system and B) king pin set. All the parts I acquired for my restoration are listed on my MGB restoration page. http://www.greatvalleyhouse.com/MGB/mgbrestore.htm

My two most annoying issues were

1). a bad gasket in a new fuel pump that left me stranded on the road more than once and was extremely difficult to diagnose. Once I figured it out I replaced the gasket with the one from the 25 year old fuel pump that was replaced and all has been OK since. I wrote to Moss on April 9th 2000 and sent photos of the bad part. I never got an answer to the email that I still have on file. Part # 377-165 Fuel Pump Negative Ground. Invoice # 374105 Cost $89.95, Purchase Date 7/13/99. I still have the items in the image below.

Bad Gasket  Gasket Gasket should fill cover  Supposed to fill cover.

2). Turn signal flasher. I bought three of these and they all failed within a month or two. Finally went to PEP Boys and got a generic product which has worked fine for the past six years.  PS: IMPORTANT...  You have to remove the glove box liner to find the flasher.

Quality is important. A bad part that wastes hours or days of a customers time should never be sold.
