Re: Tell Us A Bit About Your Car

I bought a '73 TR6 and have been working on a FULL frame-off restoration for the last 6 years. I would say I am about 75 - 80 % done! Currently I am working on the wireing then the full interior. It has been a lot of work, but the payoff will be when I can drive it. I am quite certain that it will be in better shape than when it left the BL factory!

Re: Tell Us A Bit About Your Car

A 1980 MGB Limited Edition is My current British sport car in the process of restoration, I use to take it to the Britfest show at the New Jersey Moss Motors Warehouse but she has been in the garage since my move to Florida, My 4 and 5 year old sons like to go "Around the Block" in it to keep it in working order, I had a very early 1974 Rubber Bumper MGB I don't remember the MFR date but it must have been just after the switch from chrome bumpers.

I just sold a 1970 MGB GT MFR date12/69 so it was most likely a 70 Model. I got a really rare pair of SEV Marchal Amplilux headlamps off it and put them on My 80 B. I saw a NOS pair sell for $400 on eBay! They have separate reflectors for the low and high beam so I put 55w low and 100w High!

My father had a place called Sports cars Unlimited in Bedford New York in the 50s 60s so we have always had sports cars in our blood.

Moss Motors was always part of my vocabulary!

Re: Tell Us A Bit About Your Car

OK, I'm new... very new at this. My wife and I have owned our 77 MGB for a total of 1day, 14 hours and 6 minutes. We talked about it for months and desided to go for it. I admit I did the fleabay searches, found out what some people were willing to pay for cars with bricks in front of the tires keeping them from rolling off into the river or something then redirected my search more local. A brief trip to the market, a free Auto Connection mag and the next day I was in contact with a couple looking for room in their garage. The gentleman had two. A blue one and this one. It's Damask Red with new carpeting thoughout, new top, new clutch (so I was told - I know what a new, well adjusted clutch feels like so I belived him), Weber DVG, header... It runs great and everything works! Even the clock works! Looks great too but could use a little TLC. Just got on this site to check out the seat covers. I have done some uhpolstery in the past so I thought... how hard can two little seats be...? Anyhow I thought I would check out the forum so here I am.

Re: Tell Us A Bit About Your Car

I am new "did I say new" at this. I've owned my 77MGB for "4" days. Before that I only looked at them on ebay. Yes, I admit it I look there and could not believe what some people would pay for a car with a brick used as an emergency brake... Anyhow, a quick trip to the super market - a free copy of autoconnection classified mag. and two days later I was in contact with a gentleman from Williamsport PA that needed room in his garage. Its Damask Red, limited edition decals, new top, wire wheels, new tires, luggage rack, new clutch (I know what a new clutch that is adjusted correctly feels like so I believed him), new carpet front to back, original tool kit, the head was worked over (I was told), DGV weber, header, looks great, sounds great, runs great, everything works (even the clock works). A little TLC and it will be super... but what the heck do I know. I'm new at this.

Re: Tell Us A Bit About Your Car

    DrDan,

Congratulations. After reading your post, and discerning your obvious joy and excitment I have to admit that I'm a bit jealous. I bought my first MG over fourty years ago. (a 1958 ZB Magnette Saloon) The feeling was incomparable. I've had many MGs since and have three right now, including my most recent , a 1948 TC in need of total restoration, but there's nothing like the first MG. Enjoy that car, and let us know if there's anything we can do to make the experience a good one. Cheers, we're all raising a virtual glass to you!!!

Re: Tell Us A Bit About Your Car

My father brought home a Bug Eye (Frog Eye in Britspeak) and proceeded to disassemble it and it then sat for years until My mother sold it.

I regret not having any interest in that car.

I recently sold a 1980 TR7 I got for free, It was a Florida car but it had dropped a valve and ended up sitting for years out doors and the top was shot and the little mouse living in the dashboard made a nice nest out of insulation and wiring so it was only good for parts, I sold it to a TR7 owner so at least some of it will live on!

Re: Tell Us A Bit About Your Car

About 3 years ago, my surprise birthday-christmas present from my wife was our '67 MGB roadster.

Poor little car, she had been parked at Long Beach harbour, outside with the top down for nearly 20 years - unregistered sinde the 1980's. Some very botched attempts at repairs had been made including plywood floorboards to replace the non existent floorpans and you can only imagine what exposure to the elements had done to the interior, upholstery, even the instruments & switches. There was evidence of minor collision damage and a broken rear spring Most might have considered her a parts-only car, but my wife fell in love and took pity on "Maude"

Fortunately the main structure of the car & engine was sound and she drove away from the scene of her terrible neglect. Since then we had the bodywork put right and some engine work done to replace seals, starter, dynamo...(back then I knew next to nothing about cars). We found a replacement 3 synchro gearbox as a replacement for the damaged original and had it fitted. Work I've done (with little more than a socket set, "wrenches" and a big hammer) includes: Repainting, rebuilt front and rear suspension, steering column overhaul, complete rewiring, new windshield. Complete dash refurbishment... There is still quite a bit to do, including fitting of a new interior and trim, but she is almost back to glory and is definitely roadworthy again.

In the last few years, I have become hopelessly attached to this great little car - and you all know what I mean...

    Cheers,

    Ed

Re: Tell Us A Bit About Your Car

    motorbill66,

Thank you much for the response to my posting. I never expected anyone to acknowledge it. I'm out of town working right now so I haven't had a lot of time to enjoy it but i'm sure I will.

I do have a question I think you can answer. I just received my new Moss seat kit. I did the uhpolstery in my other collector car (a 68 plymouth roadrunner) so I was planning on doing my 77 MGB seats myself. Again, I'm out of town so I don't know what the kit looks like. Also, another posting I read suggests there may not be much in the way of directions from Moss. My question is, how do you finish the job once you get the new covers on? My roadrunner utilized hog rings to close the deal. How is the MG uhpolstery connected or sealed off?

    Thanks again,

    I'm liking this already!

    DrDan

    Ed,

    I salute you!

I do know what you mean. It becomes a passion. Stick with it. All the thumbs-up you will get while driving down the road will tell you... it was all worth it.
