    Engine problem.

Hi, i'm new to the forum. I have spent the last 12 months or so restoring a Spit 1500. I'm a student with limited funds so when it came to the engine i dropped the sump and the mains and the big ends looked ok. I've had the head off and had unleaded valves/seats fitted. The problem is I can't get it to tick over smoothly. The timing/distributor is ok (Strobe checked) and the carbs are balanced and have new jets (no wax stats). It's mainly from tick-over to revving after when engine speed falls it nearly stalls, then recovers. Sometimes it does stall after a rev.

Has anyone experienced this problem? or know what it could be?

Any help will be much appreciated

    thanks

    Kris

    Re: Engine problem.

You could tell allot more about your mains and big end bearings from just looking at your oil pressure gauge rather than dropping the sump...unless of course you disassembled them.

Your symptoms are consistent with a leak in the vacuum advance tube. Check that first...you may be lucky!

    Good luck with the car.

I'd make sure there is oil in the dampers and check the mixture. It may be too lean. Also be sure the air valve diaphram is installed with both tabs in their proper slots, both on the carb body and the air valve assuring proper air valve alignment.
