    67 Sprite paint type

Just wondering what type of paint (ie enamel, lacquer) that was used on Sprites in '67. The paint on mine is pretty good, but I need to take out a couple of parking dings, and I'll need to (try) to blend in over the repairs. Thanks!

How do you know it is original paint? If it's not it could be anything. Generally though, lacquer is much easier to rub out and is softer than enamel. If a fair amount of paint shows up on the buffer when you rub out the car and the paint tends to oxidize easily it probably is lacquer. If a small amount comes off and the car holds a shine it may be enamel. A good body shop may be able to help you determine the type of paint on the car.

    Thanks, LCJUTILA.

I'm reasonably (95%) sure that the paint is the original, as I got the car from the second owner who had it 30+ years (22 stored) and he had never painted it. Also, when I rubbed out the (oxidized) Viper Red paint, it matches the paint in the trunk, engine compartment and under interior panels really well. Also, where I have sanded off the paint to make dent repairs, the paint didn't seem abnormally thick (my old '56 Chevy 210 had SIX different paint jobs hiding under the topcoat!) But, judging from the amount of paint that came off when I rubbed out a small area, I going to go with it being a lacquer job.
