    Generator not charging at idle

Generator not charging at idle only putting out 10 Volts. I have put a new battery in.  I checked the gen out as per Moos Motors tech tips.

Put hot lead to field coil still not putting out. Checked field coils reading 6 ohms new brushes what am i missing or is the generator just no good ?

     Thanks Mike F.

Re: Generator not charging at idle

Mike, Even if you rev the engine it wont put out more than 10 volts??

An alternator will put out a reasonable voltage at low rpm, dynamo definitely will not. Thats why a lot of us have gone the conversion route in order to cope with a rainy night, in slow moving traffic' with the screen misting up!!

Re: Generator not charging at idle

Mike - Try testing the generator using the procedure in the article, Testing a Dynamo/Generator in the Other Tech Articles section of my web site at: http://homepages.donobi.net/sufuelpumps/  If the generator will not put out 20 volts using this procedure, then the generator is bad.  Take it to a good auto electric shop for repair.
