    Winter Storage

I am new to the collectible car world. Can I store my 1974 TR-6 in a space that is dry but not heated? Outside temps could be below freezing (Northern Illinois).

    Sure...

    1. Make sure that your antifreeze is good enough for the cold.

    2. drain your windshield washer reservoir.

    3. Fill your gas tank, this limits the air space wherein condensation can form. Also use Fuel stabilizer.

    4. Keep your top up.

    5. Depending on the environment, you may want to close off your air cleaner and exhaust port just to keep critters out.

    6. kiss her good night!

    Here are  a couple more:

!. disconnect battery and fully charge and connect to trickle charger making sure battery has sufficient water.

    2. Change oil and filter. Lube grease points.

    3. Slightly overfill tires or put up on blocks with the weight of the car supported by suspension.

    4. Clean and wax.

    5. A car-cover would be nice.

    6. If weather permits, start/drive it occasionally. This really helps prevent brake problems.

    7. Itch for Spring.

Come to think of it, you could move to sunny Southern California!

Plus: Wrap three or four mothballs in each of as many sheets of fabric softener as you have the patience to do, and leave them in as many spots in the car as you can think off. This has worked to keep the mice out of my cars.

I would say do not disconnect your battery and try to start and run your car to operating temperature as often as the weather permits during the winter. Once every two weeks is good, every week is perfect. It will keep the inside of your engine well lubricated all over and is also good for your transmission. Not starting your car for possibly 4 cold damp Winter months is not good for your engines innards.
