    td carb problem

Hi all I have a few questions for the experts out there. First I just changed my fuel pump to the electronic type as the old one's diapham disenegrated for some reson. The fuel pump works fine the problem is now that the car will not run correct.  I pulled the carbs apart and there is a black sticky substance all over the needles and dashpots and down by the jet; did this come from the fuel pump that came apart? My concern is that mayby the compound that the fuel tank was sloshed with may not be resisting the increasing alcohol in fuel (it was done in the early 1990's with the moss kit was this alcohol proof?) and if this is the problem what are the indications that this is happening. I did notice that the inside of the tank had become the color green like if copper was corroding. Also I have always had the problem of the needles getting "gum lines" on them towards their base is there a way to prevent this? the car is driven regularly Any ideas? Thanks!

    Re: td carb broblem

    kdg-

That black junk may be from the fuel pump diaphragm dissolving. As far as the gumming up of the carb goes, it could be the brand of gas you are using. I had a similar problem with my Mustang getting seriously gummed up using Exxon/Mobil gas. I had heard rumors in the past that this could occur but found it hard to believe that a major fuel manufacturer would not know how to formulate gas.

The answer was a switch to Chevron gasoline w/ Techron. No more problems. I even throw  the chevron w/ techron fuel additive in from time to time and I have seen evidence of its ability to clean off deposits when disassembling engines.

No, I do not work for Chevron but I did work for Union Oil and I can tell you- All gasolines are not alike.
