    '61 MGA

    Good Day All:

I just recently purchased a 1961 MGA that is in need of some overhauling.  The car runs, but the brakes need significant attention along with the electrical system, interior and a new paint job (sat for many years and the mice moved in).  That said, can someone recommend a book or two that I might purchase to help me understand the proper procedure(s) for restoration/dis-assembly, assembly, etc.

I've recently built a 1965 FIA Cobra replica, so I'm handy, but this is my first restoration......any reference material guidance would be much appreciated.

There is one book that I can recommend, it's the MGA Restoration Guide by Malcolm Green. Amazon has it available. They also have some factory workshop manuals for the MKII cars but those would be handy even for the older models in most areas. The holy grail it seems is the book, Original MGA by Andres Ditlev Clausager that is now out of print and going for absolutely insane prices. The Clausager is the "bible" when it comes to the fine details of restoration, but for just good mechanical information on the process Malcolm Green's book is better IMHO. You might check used book shops and online for any other service manuals such as the Bently or Haynes. Those wern't on Amazon today, but might still be floating around somewhere.

There is a wealth of information available on line from Barney Gaylord (MGA Guru) on almost any area you might need help. http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/  Barney also has a great list of books on his site.
