    Body Work

While on a drive today we were hit by a car pulling out of a side street. There is extensive damage to our '51 TD. Does any one know of a body shop in area - Albuquerque NM. Also where original body parts are available. Left front fender, left running board & supports, left door, left headlight bracket, parking light, left side of hood. These parst are just a start. I don't know what is required for the areas I can not get to yet. Any help we can get to get our baby back on the road will be helpful

    Re: Body Work

Can't recommend a shop but I did see this bit from a fellow NM resident who has a project TD for sale and the price would be pretty good if only for the body panels you might need. Posted on the MG Experince board last week.

(I bought a MG TD I probably should have left alone. It was a project a guy was working on and then quit some 20 years ago. I would say it is sixty percent there. good fenders, frame, tub, suspension, tub, not rusty with what there was, was repaired. engine was rebuilt with a new crank. has the carbs, exhaust system, grille, there is a hole cut in the right side hood cover. It has a title but no vin # plate I can find, gas tank is there front and rear bumpers with two over riders. What is missing are all the guages and most every electrical component and most of the chrome. I figure It would make a good Vintage racer or a restoration for some one short on body work. Let me know if there is any interest at $3150.00 and I will post some photos. Feel free to call me at 505-259-1537. Cheers Henry Morrison)

I've been thinking (and that's usually dangerous) but even if it isn't too close I'd contact Bill Wardlow (Motorbill of this forum) up in Ft.Collins,Colorado about a possible repair shop. I can't think of anyone in the area who would have better contacts for this type of stuff. http://www.motorwayltd.com/homepg.htm

Well, I guess the good news is that you and your pasenger were apparently not injured, thankfully.

I concur with Bill Young.  Check with Bill Wardlow's shop in Ft. Collins, CO.  He has a ton of experience repairing and restoring "T"-series MGs, and the finished product is worth every penny.  He is also a Moss distributor, and has access to their network, along with other sources.  Here's hoping the offending party has insurance, because new fenders are $$$$$$$.

    Re: Body Work

Thanks to all for their response. I was able to purdhase a 1951 parts car. Most of the parts I need are with the parts car. Some minor trim parts will have to be ordered. My car is now with a shop in Los Lunas New Mexico. The shop does collison work as well as restoration work. They have had experience with the restoration of a MGA as well as many domestic autos. The engine in the parts car had been rebuilt and never started. It is now siezed. I will disassemble and see if it can be salvalaged. There are many parts in the parts car I will not be needing and will be putting up for sale once my car is finished. I will keep you informed of the repair progress. Thanks again.
