    77 MGB shock help

I have begun to dismantle the left side suspension to replace the shocks but I am having a real difficult time in removing the bolt that goes thru the lower wishbone that holds the lower portion of the swivel axle.  Same for the fulcrum pin.

Is this something that is simply hammered out?

Depending on environment, and the deterioration of the components, yes, this is something that can put up quite a fight. Penetrating oil, like Kroil, moderate heat, like from a propane torch, and yes, hammering, will get you through this. You have to be a tad judicious with the hammering though. If you mushroom the end(s) of the bolts, they won't want to pass through the bushings.

    Re: 77 MGB shock help

After much struggle with not much luck on the pins, I decided to put everything back together.  Since I do not have suitable press at the moment.  I've also gotten a suggestion to get a pan of oil and let the wishbone sit in it overnight.

I did notice that when I had the shock free from the 4 bolts holding it down, I could move it up and down by hand.  After two of these up and down rotations, the shock stiffened and made it difficult, but possible.  Maybe, just maybe the shock needs new oil or its low and doesn't need to be replaced.  I have no idea if original or not.   I've never opened one of these.  What can I check?
