    MGB 1970 New Starter Motor

    Hi,

We have a problem with wiring to starter motor solenoid. New starter motor and solenoid different from original. Lost the original for comparison.

We have 2 Unmarked Spade Terminals to connect on the solenoid and only one wire left over.

We need to know what to connect these two spade terminals to.

Alternatively, we might have purchased the wrong model of starter as the terminals are not the same as the original. Also, according to Haynes wiring diagrams our MGB is a mixture of the pre-1967 wiring and the 1975/76 wiring. Is this model compatible with our car? We are not sure that we have the corrent spade terminals..

Thanks for any help in advance.

Re: MGB 1970 New Starter Motor

Ben - The 67 and earlier MGB starter motor is a completely different animal than that on a 70 MGB.  The early starter motors do not have an attached solenoid, they use an external solenoid mounted on the right side inner fender.  For easier to follow wiring diagrams go to Advance Auto Wire at: http://www.advanceautowire.com/  click on Stock Schematics, then on MGB, scroll down to the diagram for your car.

    Cheers,
    Dave
