    Brooklands Aeroscreens for MGA ...

Embarrassed  Has anyone got any ideas about the fitting of these to an MGA 1600 Mk2 please?  As a complete dummy, I need to know a) where to drill the holes to fit them and b) what exactly do you do with the windscreen wipers already in place - just take them off or what?  I asked if there were any fitting instructions when I purchased them but there weren't.   Thanks in advance ...

Brooklands screens are pretty much a "universal fit" item and you just place them where you can depending on the car. For the MGA or any other car where the original windscreen doesn't fold I'd mount the Brooklands screens directly under the area covered by the gasket for the regular windscreen, that way there aren't any extra holes showing or leaking when the car is in original configuration and the Brooklands screens will be both in front of the demister outlets and behind the wipers. For the wipers, most simply remove the arms and leave the stubs exposed, although you could probably find something that would work as a cover to clean up that look, perhaps a plastic cap or such. The downside is that most Brooklands screens mount with studs and that would require some level of access under the dash to tighten these. If you're in the process of building the car and it's not painted yet, then you could probalby weld in some captive nuts for the screen posts and make the installation easier in the future.

The Brooklands screens are "universal" and so no instructions are included. Your imagination provides the guidance for mounting method and location. The wipers will be useless once you remove the proper windscreen on your MGA. So will the top and sidecurtains, which need the windscreen for support and location.

Personally, I don't favor the Brooklands screens on an MGA. It's just a matter of taste and preference, but to me, they are from an era just past as the A was coming to the fore. I'd prefer a cut-down stock screen, or a fabricated low curved screen made from Lexan. Either of these is quite a project, and they ALSO make the use of sidecurtains and top impossible. I guess I haven't helped much, have I?

While I agree with Motorbill about the look of the Brooklands screens on a MGA, they were used in the early period by some racers. I just uploaded a couple of shots showing Brooklands screens on MGAs. The white car was photographed at Sebring and the black and white photo was a car being raced in England so you would definitely be period correct to use one on a MGA.

Well thanks for that guys.  As is typical of the UK, it takes someone from overseas to sort out the problems of our own making!   The comments were very constructive - have now fitted the screens and I think they look great.  They don't really go with the pressed steel wheels and a few other bits and pieces ... but Rome wasn't built in a day (as I'm sure you know) with the upkeep of these classics.
