Where is the ground for my guages...

anyone happen to know where the ground for the gauges on my 77B is?  I assume I have a ground problem, since my TACH, Fuel, and Temp. guages are working intermitantly.

    Thanks for any help...

I've been looking at the schematics and I don't belive that it is a ground problem unless you're just refering to the illumination lamps for these gauges. If it's the actual gauge operation then I tend to believe that it's a power problem that supplies the gauges as the fuel and temp gauges are grounded through their respective sending units and the tach is grounded to the dash panel itself. The fuel and temp gauges get their power through the voltage stabilizer and it shares in input with the tack through a green wire that comes through a three connecton bullet connector. That's the most likely place to start looking for a bad connection. You should be able to trace the green wire from the voltage stabilizer back to that connection. It will be up under the dash and not easy to get to, but that's where you need to start, From there the next place I'd look is pin 6 of the fuse block for a loose spade connector on one of the green wires. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply!  You are completly correct, it was a power prob.  I had been looking at the schematic from the Haynes book and had been a bit confused by it and thought the red/white wires that are the illumination power wires were actually the guage power wires.  After finding a MUCH easier to read schematic I realized I should be looking for the green wire and very quickly determined that I had a bit of corrision in the fuseblock.

Next stop is the windshield washer pump...

Just a hint. If you want to get schematics for your MGB or TRs that are printed in color and easy to read check out the Advance Autowire web page. The prints are in PDF format and easy to download to a flash drive and have someplace like Kinkos print them in 11X17 and laminate. Really makes troubleshooting electrical problems much easier.  http://www.advanceautowire.com/

Just click on the "stock schematics" tab.

I think I had read another post of yours that refrenced Advance Autowire that led me to their schematics.  I can't beging to say how much better they are than the Haynes book!
