    79 MGB & california emissions

We're rebuilding the engine on our 79 MGB; we live in california, the car has an air pump. we'd like to put a weber carb and peco header on; will doing so prevent me from passing emissions tests ?? I assume the weber carb/intake & peco headers do not have the air pump connections the stock intake/exhaust do; can we simply add these connections in and meet emission standards ??

Help much appreciated from folks who've been down this road....

    thanks

    Frank:

Sorry to say, but unless you get really, really creative California smog laws will prohibit you from making any obvious modifications to the engine. Currently you are required to maintain the original intake manifold, carburetor, catalytic converter, egr valve and smog pump.

The only help Moss can offer is the bolt on fuel injection kit, which is designed to replace the Zenith Stromberg carburetor. This kit is California Air Research Board approved and allows you to bypass the EGR valve. The air pump and catalytic converter must be in operable condition though.

The only way to get the Weber carb and Header to pass would be to get the system approved by a referree and that is beyond my experience.

    good luck

I am looking at a 1976 MGB in Oregon.  The owner states all the smog stuff has been taken off.  If I bring it to California I'll need a list of smog equipment for it.  I know there has to be a smog pump, an egr valve and a catalytic converter.  Is there anything else?  It may not be worth the effort but I would like to check it out.
