    Halogen Headlights

    Good morning all,

I drive a 1993 Mini Tahiti and am thinking of fitting Halogen headlights to replace the Sealed lamps as I drive on a lot of unlit roads.

Is it safer to wire in a relay when fitting these lights to protect my wiring and is there a fitting kit available ?

I already have driving lights fitted with a relay ,so should I just stick to the Sealed lights ?

    Re: Halogen Headlights

Sealed Beams are not the best of lamps when there light start to yellow with age. I have driving lights on my Midget and never use them. A few years ago when I was in the U.K. I did notice many dark streets lol. So I would go with the Halogen's without any mods to you wiring. You Mini should not be that out of date on the electrical to handle the Halogen's Good luck hope this helps.....

Halogen headlights are a must these day! Its an amazing transformation. Aslo bear in mind not only can you see a lot more but also others can see you!

If you use the standard bulbs 60/55w you will be fine...If you intend to upgrade to say 100/80w bulbs then put the relay kit on it my just damage the loom!

Yes we do order part no GAC4023Z direct replacement so the only skill needed is to remove the single + screw under the chrome rim and the three + on the inner chrome retainer... unplug the sealed beam and replace with the new unit! it's that easyGeekedIdea

    Re: Halogen Headlights

    Hi

Have read this with interest as I want to do the same. However, I have the old connection - to accept the p36d base. So I guess I would need to make a change to the wiring to accpet the H4 connection.  Is there some sort of adapter one can get to make it a bit easier?

     Thanks

    Re: Halogen Headlights

I purchased the Wipac conversion: http://www.moss-europe.co.uk/Shop/ViewProducts.aspx?PlateIndexID=3501&SortOrder=2 with these globes: GLB472X  The difference was like night and day!  No more headlights "like a candle in the wind"!  This was for RHD, so you would need to ensure LHD spec for the USA.

Moss US also sells halogen lamps and globes: http://www.mossmotors.com/Shop/ViewProducts.aspx?PlateIndexID=69803

    Re: Halogen Headlights

    Just a quickie

Personally I prefer the Cibie bulbed units for the quality of light output.  The Lucas ones are nice but pricey.

Consider fitting a relay in the headlamp wiring circuit if you want to upgrade the power output much beyond the standard 55/60 watt dip/mains of each lamp.

Melting the master control and or dipper switch is a classic problem - also expensive. You will also be able to get more volts direct to the lamps rather than via the array of connectors and switch contacts.
