    Increased HP

I have a 67 Sprite that has a 1098 engine in it. I would like to increase the HP by installing exhaust header and sport muffler(which I received today) and was wondering how much of an increase I could expext if I installed the 1275 alloy head which increases flow and has larger valves than I have now. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Does your engine have the small or 2" bearings?

    Is your engine a 10CG or a 10CC?

10CC      When I bought the car it had a cracked head. Found a used head (1098)in good condition and had it done last year-machined, new valves ect. Don't really need a new head, more of I WANT-if it will increase the hp.

Do you still have thembers on the old head?  If so, can you read the casting numbers on both it & your new head....I want to see if you restricted your engine with the wrong head.

    Re: Increased HP

I don't have the old head. It was shot. Can't get the numbers from the head on the engine now cause I dropped the car off yesterday to have it painted. Will be gone for about 3 months. I can get the head numbers when he pulls the engine. I spoke with a machine shop and he thought that having the present heads ported and polished might increase the hp 6, 7, or 8, in that range. Any feedback on that?

    Re: Increased HP

if your still in limbo, I put a alum head on my 1098. seems a bit faster but nothing extreme. think to get full effect i need a performance cam?  also believe the new head might have increased compression as the combustion chamber in new head was smaller over all(did not take exact measurments)  car seems to have started burning more oil since the new head to, possably the increased compression??? anyone?

ohh and you WILL have to grind into the block a bit to make room for the bigger valves!!!!
