    Plug missing?

    Hey Posters,

While doing an underbody inspection of my new '72 MGB I noticed one of the holes on the back engine plate connected to the transmission bell housing was missing (see arrow in picture below). But I can't figure out which part # it is in the Moss catalog. Any ideas?

Is it just me and my machine, but is the picture missing, too ?

    Re: Plug missing?

I can't see it either, just one of those big boxes with the little box and an X where you're supposed to right click and then.......

I'm used to this. Just about half the time I get one of those, it won't come up (turn into a real picture) no matter what I do. Sigh... I'm going back to my cave now and make some stone tools...

    Re: Plug missing?

    Hi Matt.

I can't see the image either. But I think you are talking about a plug which is approx. 1 1/4" in diameter. The Moss number is 297-495 and it was fitted to the 18GG through 18V engines. The hole in the back plate was there to access the torque converter bolts if the car was equipped with an automatic transmission. Strange but true.

    Re: Plug missing?

Yeah, that's what I've been thinking it was, but I really just wanted to see that picture!!

Almost every B that has this access hole has lost the plug with no great consequence, in case you're interested.

    Re: Plug missing?

Dang it! Sorry guys. Don't know what's up with the picture. It's not going to upload. If I figure it out I'll post it. And thanks for the replies. I'll have to take your word for it that it is not a big deal, it's just a little surprising that there's a hole that big into the clutch.
