    Engine Overheating

Hello, I am new to this method of advice but here goes. I own a 1978 MGB Roadster and the previous owner had the cam changed, engine balanced and added a V8 radiator to cope with increased cooling requirements in the Okanagan region. My problems started last year when the engine temperature would rise too close to the red and I would start getting a lot of white smoke from the tail pipe. The engine pressure seams OK, I have no white deposits on the oil filler cap. The heater is working fine so I don,t think I have circulation problems. Do I possibly have a blown head gasket or something more simple Thanks for any advice, Dave.  (1st time owner)

Dave, white smoke (steam) and an overheating engine does sound like at least a blown head gasket to me. If you google "engine leak down test" you'll see a good way to run a definitive test.

Thanks Poolboy, I have spoken to a tech at my local Nissan dealer and he knows a retired mechanic who apprenticed for British Leyland and apparently knows these engines inside out. The Nissan guys are going to do the "leak down test" for me just for my own piece of mind and a good health check. Any excuse for them to work on a car that they can't plug in to a computer for the answers Thanks again, Dave.
