Tubular header and Carb. heat shield ?

    Hi all,

There must be lot of you out there using tubular type exhaust extractor manifolds.... can the standard twin S.U. heat shield be used with these tubular manifolds ? If not, where does one secure the carb return springs to ?

I have a tubular manifold on my engine and it has the standard twin S.U. set up without a heat shield at the moment. (the engine is still out of the car)

It looks like the middle pipe of the exhaust manifold extends out too far and looks like a flat sheet of steel (like the heat shield) can not be fitted on the intake manifold.

    Your comments please

    CeeJay.

I've yet to run across a set of tubular headers that did not work with the stock MGB twin SU heatshield. Your's might be unique, but I doubt it. Worst case scenario, I'd trim the heatshield where the center pipe has clearance issues. The typical 1 3/4" carburetor heat shields are made in two parts with the center being open. The critical thing is to keep the heat from the float bowls.
