I'm the original owner of a '76 MGB and I'm considering swapping twin HS-4 SU's for a supercharger (the SU's were installed in '82). I recently restored the car and had the engine (& carbs) completely re-built. It runs better than ever. I just drove an SC-equipped B yesterday and am sold on it's performance virtues.
So, except for some of the obvious advantages (power, accel, etc.), I'm curious about fuel economy. Does the SC provide any meaningful improvement in mileage? Naturally I understand there may not be much improvement if the right foot is consistently heavy, but if one chooses to drive in a reasonably conservative manner, can I expect to get more MPG? Or is it more likely that swapping my stock 4-speed for a 5-speed tranny would have a greater impact on fuel mileage?
Many thanks in advance.
