How long have you had your Healey?

    I bought BN6L-942, a 100/6 2-seater in 1978 with my tax returns.  We've been through a lot since then...

(will test later to see if pictures can be linked)

Re: How long have you had your Healey?

I bought my 1967 BJ8 in 1968 just after I returned from Viet Nam (71st Seabees attached to the 3rd MEF). I drove it through Graduate School then took it off the road, as I needed a more reliable mode of transport for work. I had the car in storage until about 5 years ago when a complete restoration was started. At this point, the engine has been rebuilt and modified, the frame has been completely refurbished and the front and rear ends installed. I have made the following modifications to the car:  1) Conversion to Negative Ground, 2) Installation of electronic ignition, 3) conversion to a spin-on oil filter, 4) installed disc brakes in the rear, 5) relegated the Armstrong lever shocks to a museum (where they belong) and converted to Bilstein gas shocks, 6) replaced the original SU fuel pump with a fully electronic pump and 7) installed an alternator. The benefits of modern materials is aiding in the restoration, so waiting 30 years has worked in my favor.  I should have it back on the road by Spring 2007. I'll post some photos as the project goes forward.

    It's not mine, but we're restoring a '55 100-4 for its second owner who's had it since '58. THAT'S a while...

    about 4 months.

I'm the second owner.  the PO passed away last june and his widow sold the car after it had been sitting in her carport for 40 years.

Re: How long have you had your Healey?

I BOUGHT MY BJ8 BACK IN 1991 . I WAS DRIVING A MGB ROADSTER EVERYDAY AND A FELLA STOPPED ME AT AN AUTO ZONE AND SAID YOU WANT TO BUY MY MGB . I SAID WELL I WOULD TAKE A LOOK AT IT . WELL HE SENT ME OUT INTO A CORN FIELD TO LOOK IT OVER, WELL I DIDN'T NEED OR WANT THAT, SO I DROVE A 1/4 MILE TO THE NEXT COUNTY ROAD AND LOW AND BEHOLD THERE SAT A BJ8 UP ON BLOCKS WITH THE ENGINE OUT ON THE GROUND . I ASKED THE OWNER IF HE WOULD SELL IT HE SAID YEA BUT HE WOULD HAVE TO HAVE 500.00 FOR IT . I PAID ON THE SPOT AND HAULED IT HOME NICE THING WAS IT WAS A BLACK PLATE CALIFORNIA CAR WITH ONLY A BIT OF RUST IN THE DOG LEGS. SHE STILL ISN'T PRETTY BUT SHE RUNS LIKE A BAT OUT OF HELL.

Re: How long have you had your Healey?

I first learned of my 1960 Bugeye in 1975.  It had been won at an American Legion 4th of July picnic for $1.00. The car had been the legion's parade car until someone used DOT brake and clutch fluids instead of the Castrol. I chased the Bugeye for another 10 years until June 1985 when I convinced the owner to sell me the car. Since my purchase I very quickly removed the Fiat seats and shag carpets and repainted to a 1978 GM maroon color (it was what was on the shelf the night we painted from the hideous kool aid orange). This spring we converted to wire wheels and are about to install a fresh 1275 and a newly rebuilt rib case. My Bugeye ( Kermit the Frog ) has 31,400 documented miles. I am not going to make it concours until a later point in my life. I just want to have a sharp looking daily driver to keep my 7 MG Midgets company.
