Healey 3000 / BMC C Series Rocker Gasket problem.

Has anyone had a problem with a Moss BMC C series Rocker cover gasket?

I bought one recently and (with apparently misguided trust) fitted it. After going for a spin I left the car on the road outside my house and to my horror later found a large oil slick . After removing the gasket I found it was too long and allowed oil to escape from the rear of the rocker cover. Returning to the local Moss shop they agreed it was wrong and kindly gave me another one free (also wrong) which I carefully cut and re joined. The join doesnt leak but the the rear still does. The chaps at Moss also kindly(?) sold me a product to clean the road - guess what? This also didnt work.... in fact it made it worse...

Cost to me - £5.00 Rocker Gasket, £7.00 on non functioning road cleaner, 2 litres of high quality oil, Gearbox drenched in oil, hopelessly stained road, incandescent neighbour who has to walk through oil stain.

My hint BEWARE OF THESE GASKETS.. I would welcome a comment from Moss about what they plan to do not just for me but all the other Healey / C series owners  who may fall into this trap - ie was it mixed stock is is it a manufacturing error. If only it was the first time I had experienced a problem with this company...

Thanks for posting the information and sorry to hear of the problems you had. I've got a query into Moss UK to find out if they are having problems with this gasket or if it was, as you suggested a problem of mixed stock.

In the US we are using a different supplier, and so far (fingers crossed) do not have any reported problems. Just to be sure, I did pull our part number 529-103 and compare it to an original Austin-Healey 100-6 valve cover and it did fit correctly.
