    To tall for a TR-6?

I want to buy a TR-6. I absolutely love the car. My problem is that I am 6'3" tall and recently sat in one and found that the tops of my thighs touch the bottom of the steering wheel. Can I move the seat mounting back to give me more leg room?

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

You may be able to slide the seat back more, no way of telling where it was postioned when you tried the fit. Having you thighs touch the steering wheel isn't that unusual in most British sports cars, most used pretty large diameter wheels and changing to a smaller diameter custom wheel is a popular accessory option. (a quick glance at the accessories section of the Moss catalog will show that) http://www.mossmotors.com/Shop/ViewProducts.aspx?PlateIndexID=35374

Your ability to fit into most sports cars will depend more on your proportion of leg length to torso length. I'm 6'4" and weigh around 230 and drive a MG Midget so you should be able to fit in the TR6 pretty well with a smaller diameter steering wheel. You just have to try. These are fairly small cars, so don't expect the same level of comfort as you get in a larger sedan though.

Amebop, you might ask that question at www.6-pack.org ,too. We've got some tall guys there who have made themselves comfortable with a simple mod. or 2.

And, some may address Bill Young's point about the steering wheels.

I have a 74 and really enjoy driving it. You gotta like tinkering, too, when you own one of these old boys.

Re: To tall for a TR-6?

When I first became interested in British cars in 1972, my dream was a TR-6. I went to a Triumph dealer and looked at a brand new one, but my 6'2" frame wouldn't fit. I told the dealer that if he could move the seat tracks back enough to give me some leg room, I would buy it. Of course he said he couldn't do that; liability issues and all. So I went to the MG dealer and tried on an MGB. Fit beautifully! I've been driving mostly MGBs since.
