    Supercharger to manifold gasket

A recent thread on the UK BBS Supercharger forum has me wondering about this gasket.  What are the symptoms and signs of a blown gasket between the manifold and the supercharger?  Is this an item that needs to be replaced at a certain interval?  Are there any tricks to separating the supercharger from the manifold on the MGB SC set-up?  Should one use any sealant when replacing the gasket?  Would love to hear Kelvin, Robert's or any other thoughts on this issue>

    Re: Supercharger to manifold gasket

The symptoms would be very poor idle and evidence of an oily residue where the gasket had failed. The gasket is not a wearing part and should not need attention. The gasket can fail along the lower horizontal side if there are excessive backfires due to incorrect cold running mixture or a leaking intake valves. It's not a common problem, but is a pain to fix.

If the gasket does need to be replaced, the supercharger and intake unit does need to come off the car. It's just too difficult to get to the mounting allen bolts with the assembly in place. Once the assembly is off, it's pretty easy to pull the four allen bolts, then disconnect the bypass hose.

I'd suggest a gasket adhesive, such as Gasketcinch or other rubber cement based products. I would not recomend any silicone based sealants as they are not fuel resistant and we want to prevent the gasket from sliding sideways.

    Hope this helps you out.
