    I've been thinking...

I often try to align people in the news with vehicles, that is to say, given a certain personality, what type of vehicle would that person most resemble. The doctor tells me this is good therapy and he must be right because the "littles ones" have recently stopped chewing on my toe nails, (the ones I save in a jar, not the ones on my feet).

For instance, let's take Vice President Cheney: In my eyes, he would be an AMF version of a Harley Davidson. He looks and sounds mean, but in reality, is frail, prone to breaking down and is very dangerous, especially if you go hunting with him!

How about President Bush, In my mind, he conjures up memories of Volkswagen's "The Thing" (please say that I'm not the only one to remember this car). He looks like a strong, squared off, reliable car on the surface, but then you soon discover that the entire facade is easily disassembled, part by part. Eventually you end up with a vehicle that gets no respect and will also soon be forgotten.

What do you guys think? What car would Obama, McCain, or any other celebrities be?

    Re: I've been thinking...

    Dangerous territory, Davy!

I'd put Obama as a Lotus (you can choose which model) - exotic, captivating, but not entirely practical.  Doesn't mean it won't do the job, but you'll have to seriously temper performance with economics.

For some reason, I view McCain as an International Scout (remember those?) or maybe a Nissan 4 x 4.  Those rigs will give you a little too much confidence in your their abilities (all sizzle and not too much steak) and you could end up in hot water or stuck in the mud.  Theyll end up costing you more in the long run...

Just my two cents.  Fire away!

    Re: I've been thinking...

I see Obama as a well considered car show concept vehicle. So far there is a great deal of promise. First, though, we'll have to see if he makes it to "production". Right now all the enthusiast magazines are making a lot of poorly educated guesses based on speculation. Then, if indeed the product does come to fruition, we can only hope to see that most of the really neat features from the showcar turn up in the final version. I know I'm hoping...

Mc Cain is an old Army Jeep somebody keeps changing to try to keep up with modern SUVs, which themselves may not be so viable anymore. You know, it's hard not to like the old machine, but it's become difficult to recognize it under all those "upgrades". If we wind up having to drive this thing, let's hope it's traditional integrity doesn't fail under the weight of all the modifications and accessories that have been heaped upon it.

    Re: I've been thinking...

Well, sticking to just British cars ...

McCain - Rover SD1 - A solid well-liked vehicle of the 70's and 80's that's now well past its prime.  I hope everyone has had the chance to see the BBC "Top Gear" show wherein Jeremy and the boys race a SD1, a 70's vintage Princess, and a Triumph Dolomite around the track ... whilst filled to the rear view mirror with water.  Alas, not a good showing for the Rover.

Obama - MINI Cooper - Fresh new concepts, lean, and definitely different-looking.  Very popular with the younger and college graduate crowd.  Attracts a crowd everytime it stops somewhere.

the current occupant - Yugo - I know, it's not British, but appropriate ...

These posts are all very insightful, you guys are great!

How about Hillary, or other celebs perhaps from the entertainment world? Any one care to handle Paris Hilton? To me she would be a flood damaged Mazda Miata. She looks like allot of fun from the outside, and many people have driven her, but thanks to the flood, her computer is cooked and she's turned into a walking petri dish.

Times being what they are, it wouldn't surprise me if there wasn't some guy in Virginia reading this everytime one of the Candidates' names scores a hit on his computer.

    Re: I've been thinking...

You laugh davey, but you're not the guy with Black Heliocopters passing over their property.

Seriously, I was in town this afternoon at the Dentist, went to fuel up afterwards. Lines of cars fueling up, pick up trucks with dozens of 5 gallon containes in the bed getting filled.

By Sunday or Monday, half of New Orleans will be up this way........Gustav.

    Oh MY God!

Oy...wouldn't you rather have winters by the fire, up North? That way, you wouldn't have Federales flying over your head, AND  it also gives you more "down time" to work on your Triumph!

That's sometimg to consider alright, davey. But this is a Triumph, right? They don't suffer from a lot of down time.

( sorry, d, I just had to slip that in)

    Re: I've been thinking...

erm, a Saturn something or other. You know, it's really a rebadged something else, but can't quite figure out what the ordinary car is that lurks beneath.

Hey, on a British theme, what about Gordon Brown, or Tony Blair? Gordon to me is an Austin Maxi, practical, but not exceptional, out dated, difficult to handle and somewhat hard to look at.

Tony Blair would perhaps be a new Mini convertible, but not the Cooper - all the veneer, but none of the substance.
