I got a 1956 MGA from my dad in 1968 when I was in Jr. High and couldn't drive yet. My dad had purchased the car for about $400: it ran badly and was a basket case with bad body damage and really bad paint.

I spent the next five years gradually restoring it: although we never did a frame-off restoration, we had most of the body apart.

One thing that helped: when I was in high school I dated a girl that had a 1958 Mercedes 190 SL that she had been restoring for about as long. When we went on dates, there was about a 50/50 chance that we'd be pushing one or the other of our cars home.

Today I still have that 1956 MGA, recently reacquired from my dad. Now when I get in it and start the engine I feel like I'm 17 again and going out on a date - with my wife, of course!

Best luck to you with your project. I hope you have as much fun as I did for as many years!
