1275 A-Series Camshafts We now carry new steel billet performance cams for the 1275cc engine that are tailored to performance street driving. These cams mate up to the latest design A+ slot drive oil pump, and must be installed as a set.
A bit of history on the A-Series engines:
The A-Series engines started out at 850cc, then were increased in steps to 948cc (Sprite/Midget), 998cc (Mini), 1098cc (Sprite/Midget, MG1100), 1275cc (Sprite/Midget, Austin America, Mini Clubman).
The rare 1275cc Mini Cooper S was a unique engine that had a lot of differences from the later 1275cc engine that is so popular with Spridget owners.
In 1980 the much improved A+ engines were released both in front wheel drive 998cc (Mini 1000) and 1275cc (MG Metro) configuration and as an in-line 1275cc (Morris Ital).
(A+ engine blocks can be easily identified by external strengthening ribs on each side) 114-160 APT VP266 Fast Road Cam, Slot Drive
Delivers a smooth idle, this cam is a great street driver as it gives a balance of low and high end improvement. This is the best cam for supercharged engines as it gives a higher valve lift without too much duration. This cam features pressure fed oiling to the lobes and distributor drive gear.
Power Band: 1,000-6,500
Intake Duration: 260 degrees
Exhaust Duration: 270 degrees
Intake Valve Lift: .066" 114-165 APT VP276 Fast Road/Rally Cam, Slot Drive
Delivers a slightly lumpy idle but gives strong mid and high end power. Suitable for street use, but not the best for a daily driver. Features pressure fed oiling to the lobes and distributor drive gear.
Matching slot drive oil pumps: 114-039 Turbo High Output Slot Drive Oil Pump
Originally fitted to the MG Metro Turbo, this pump provides more flow than stock which keeps oil pressure constant under hard use and is a performance upgrade to the stock pump.
114-034 Slot Drive Oil Pump
This is the standard pump as fitted originally to the A+ series of engines. It is an improvement over the earlier 1275cc star drive pump.
